Default More HP out of a 40 Yamaha

I am new to the boat racing and would like some info. I do know 2 strokes. I have a 2001 40 HP Yamaha Outboard. I want to get 60+mph out of it on a 14' long board boat that weighs around 400lb. What can I do? Carbs, exhaust, timing, props, etc...

First I wouldn't worry about work to your motor! I would worry more on your setup! Like motor height and motor trim! If possible I would lighten that boat! Especially any extra weight at the front of your boat! Remember high school math! 5 pounds isn't all that much extra weight but when you hold it out 14 feet away from you it extremely heavy! Same thing on your motor! 5 extra points up at the bow can slow you down a lot! There are a lot of things you can do and I would love to help you every step of the way! Just ask whatever you need to know and I'll try to help! I run a 30 hp mercury on a 14 flat bottom and I run 55.1 mph!

Tyst67 is correct. Boat and set up are first. 400lb is a lot of boat for a 40 to be going fast. Is that your only hull choice? Please put a picture.
