    Default Michigan Prop

Hi I am building a replica of Doug Bailey's Champion JU utility boat from the 60's. It takes a Mercury Mark 5 From the early 50's. I am looking for a Michigan Wheel AJ 520 prop size 6 3/8 X 6 1/2. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks Dave Dms2@metrocast.net

Default Two Old Michigans the Might Work on an Old JU

I have had these props for a long time....I don't know what rotation you have but maybe one would work.

I saw Doug Bailey race at the 1964 Stock Nationals in Modesto California….. he was fast. If my memory is correct his boat had a unique paint job. White with various color polka dot circles. I can’t remember if Doug won that year but his closest competition was Jim Downing. I think Doug won the 1963 Nationals in Boston.

Have you posted on hydroracer.net? Also try Alan VanWeele at 337-304-0379 or David VanWeele at 386-295-3391. Alan also now owns the hydroracer.net web site.

I don’t think they were using three blades back then. Be sure to post pictures of your finished project.

Thanks for the quick replies. Doug won in '63&'64 as far as I remember. The prop I am looking for is a two blade, left hand. It is small only 6 3/8 diameter x 6 1/2 pitch. The bore is splined to match the propshaft in the Mark 5. Kind of a needle in a haystack. I know where the winning prop is, but it is not available. This is a dream I've for a long time to complete. When finished I plan to donate it to the N.H. Boat museum, with an interesting history to go with it. Thanks for the help.
    Thanks Dave

Would it be possible to have the prop digitized and copied on a CNC machine? It’s probably is not that expensive….. just a guess.

Thanks for that thought Dean. I've just begun the hunt at this point. I need to find one to copy first. I signed up to hydro racer last night. Will try posting there.
    Thanks again

To help with my search, I've told to search for an old JU prop and adapter. I guess I didn't know that the prop had a separate adapter. I'll stay on the hunt. Again, All leads appreciated
    Thanks Dave.
