    Cool Smooth bore cylinder honing

Trends change and one that is changing is in the way cylinder bores are being honed by smaller companys. This article may bore you to death (no pun intended) or you may find it of interest. Any input is always welcomed because this is BRF.

Only trouble is, those platform honing stones cost over $130 from Sunnen, and your machine shop might balk at risking them being mangled in your 2-stroke ports. Old Merc ports are not so bad (although there's a problem with the cylinders being closed at one end), but modern 2-stroke ports terrify owners of CK-10s. For that matter, running over those giant ports is harder on rings than running over a bore that has not been platform-finished. These aren't 100,000 mile engines. But yeah, giving your racemotor the best of everything would make you consider soft-honing . . . .

Smitty, i like your take on this, 'cause them old mercs are a lot cheaper than $5000.00.
