# 53c doesn't have a steering wheel!!!!

I'm only in my 60s and have seen a race like that in the Soo on the St. Marys, guy with an old oppossed sr with 2 hands on.

I don't know how to spell "TWITTLING", but the guy has a steering wheel...He's leaning her down so he doesn't foul a plug!!!!

Of course he had a steering wheel. When you come up early for a start, you aways have to lean out the carb.

One of my proudest moments was in the 1956 Nationals at Long Beach was when Ward Angilley and I came up together too early for the start and I reached around to lean down and saw Ward doing exactly the same thing. I knew I was doing the right thing. Well Ward and I jumped out into the lead and I reach around to richen back up and Ward was doing the same thing. We both got beat.

He was from Daly City, CA and was called the "Daly City Kitty" I was always in awe of him. He is listed in the program, above, C-5. He was written up in the 1936 Popular Mechanics magazine as the preminent outboard racer. If I could beat Ward, I was a success, even if he were 5th and I were 4th.

You fellas must both be younger than I , as time i was referring to was 48-9 , Indian Dude , hydro was always against corner of his house during the winter. Always looked over as i rode the bus bumper home.

He had a 48 chev. pie wgn.

Somehow, I remember the 1949 better than 1952....Of course, my brother won A Hydro in 1949, with 32 A Hydros running at the same time...and My dad blew over while leading C racing Runabout, having hit a late starter's wake...I don't recall 1952 at all....Except me Niece was born February 28th.....a leap year.
