Wayne....thanks for all the memories. Was just getting back into Stock
Outboard about this time after spending time with Uncle Sam and trying to
get settled into normal civilian life again. Was starting my career at the
Timken Company bout that time so was tough getting vacation time about
then too so missed out on a lot of national events back then. Thanks again
and am looking forward to more of this history.

Default OLY Pro Nationals, Winona Minnesota 1976

This was the year that Bobby Riggs came to Winona. He had challenged the woman tennis player (forgot her name) to a boat race. I think she beat him in tennis, but she didn't show up to race.

    Default Billy Jean King

Bobby Riggs was an interesting piece of work...Basically, he had been a "HUSTLER" all his life...Golf, tennis..??? Billy Jean King beat the fire out of him on National Monday Night TV...But, it was a great show.....Kind of like Caly use to say he'd win the fight...then win it!!!

That's who it was Ron. I had her face in my memory but the name that kept popping up was Janet Reno and I knew that wasn't right. Here are some more from that Bi-Centennial Nationals.

    Default DePue 74

The results of the Rock Skipping Contest were the same as most of the boat races that Wayne and I had over the years, he won. I think he also successfully defended the title at Winona. I finally won it one year when no one else showed up.

    Default Back to DePue

1974. That was a year of low water. The outside perimeter of the course was marked off. Drizzled off and on before qualifying and a downpour came when everybody was leaving the pits. We left Joe Rome stranded with a rental car trying to get back to Chicago. He looked like a drownded rat. Sorry Joe. Guess that could be considered dirt.

    Default Pro Nationals Hinton 1977

I can's remember if a couple of these had been posted earlier or not. I apologize in advance if they have. These are some that were in a batch that have started to deteriorate because I had them crammed to tightly in what I thought were good sleeves. They make much better archival plastic that they did 30 years ago, and while I have started to transfer them, thought I would post some. I had to start marking the ones that I have posted, because I have too many to remember. Sorry if I messed up.
