The omc factory sold 23" pitch props for sport e , some of my friends ran 24 & 25 inch props . The 25" props for the V-4 motors worked good on some boats .Especially when running tall transom heights .
on a different note, one of the MOST successful sport e drivers used a rare MERCURY prop -3 blade cleaver ,intended for the 650 XS - a 24" pitch , but, when apba outlawed the 650 XS from Sport E , merc stopped selling the 24 " prop , because only OMC drivers were using it !
on the 75 EVINRUDE &johnson was 15-28 ; =1.86 -1 . all Merc's that ran S E had a 1.64-1 ratio.
acceleration was the name of the game. top speed meant little, except for the kilo's . you needed your motor to be able to rev 7000 rpm's by the end of the straightaway ,to be competitive . Fast turning and good acceleration out of the corners was everything .
thanks for info,, just putting down some figures to figure a project that ime undertakeing for form-e/se super-e 850??? what ever there calling the class this week,,,cheyney
