Good OLD F runabout ! Jay was in the OMC racers and was going to De Pue to run F runabout. He didn't have a deck rider and asked me if I'd like to ride deck. I did ride deck and it took me 2 nationals to figure out it's more fun going into the first turn with a throtle in your hand instead of a deck handle. Toprahanian's f boat was the old style-driver and deck rider side by side and you crawled out on the deck in the turns. I started running F and my sons were my deck riders. It should be A rule that all runabout racers ride in a F runabout 1 time !

    Ron--
This is the way Jay and I ended up at the first race. I guess the engine was set too high on the transom. The boat got a little squirlly
and dumped both of us into good old lake De Pue. The next year we both stayed in the boat but I dont remember where we finished.
Jay-- Can you fill in the DETAILS?

The rule book didn't say anything about not running a movable prop under water (outdrive) in 2.5 so Jay did it.
I thought it was creative as hell.
The pearl clutching at Dayton was must see TV.

Around the same time, Dave Knox spotted another 'omission' in the 2.5 rules.
He slapped a turbo on the Pinto in his Hardest Four.
Rich Hallet drove it and smoked everybody.

That's an awesome story, Bruce! It sounds like you have a lot of experience with F Runabout, and it's great that you've passed that down to your sons. It really is a great feeling to be in control of the throttle in the turns. I can only imagine the experience of riding in a side-by-side boat. It's great that you took the time to share your story with us!
