Was that the year that Rick Hoffman blew over a (no capsuled) SST45 and broke his arm? You may want to consider the possible speeds of unlimited 45 boats.

    Default 1st Mini Boat Enduro

See, I had gotten Tohatsu into APBA racing. Well, maybe I got them into racing first.

Western Engine distributed Vovlo Penta Outdrives and did a pretty cool job of selling engines, drives and parts. About $8 million a year. This is back about 1984.

Western Engine was owned by a Wisconsin company that the name slips my mind right now, maybe Palmer Johnson, but they hired Mural to run the place. Mural was an old Wisconsin beer drinker.

Western Engine had great Fourth of July, Easter, Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Valentine's Day and about 20 other days for parties. They had a good budget, made good money and employees were happy.

I was making a Volvo Stainless propeller that worked great, but Volvo PARENT company never acknowledged that I was in the propeller business. I sent Volvo of Sweden like 6 props and they never paid me. Mural and Western Engine paid me.

One day, as I walked into Western Engine I saw Tohatsu motors in boxes, they were everywhere. Western Engine had become the distributor of Tohatsu Outboards.

I said, "****, fire, damn. We should race these motors." One way that Western Engine made BANK was they always had inventory and they sold engines to small boat companies. A company would sell a boat, get the cash and buy a VOLVO. Mercrusier had many more restrictions on small builders. So, most small builders, Sleek Craft, Bahner, Caliber, Witch Craft, Baker, hell I don't remember, all bought motors from Western Engine.

I guy named "TWITCHY" bought some Addictors and started putting Tohatsu motors on them.

I convinced Mural we neede to race to Catalina. So, we got Sleek Craft Bruce Nescher to take his 36 foot Sleek out and we got like 12 Addictors to race to Catalina. Willey Poole of Trailer Boat's Magazine won..but he was the only finisher...the other 11 ran out of gas.

That night over 6-7 Margaritas to told Mural, had someone drwoned out there, HE would have gotten sued for sponoring the race and what we needed was APBA. He agreed to pay all insurance cost for future races.

Ernie Dawe got C-NOD legalized that year under APBA (C National One Design). We had the first Mini Enduro and the fastest boat went maybe 50, my boat which got third overall...would go 44 with me in it and 48-50 with John Castelli or Bob Wartinger driving.

We had fund, speeds kept going up and people got hurt, Rick Hoffman, Blake Easu, then it disappeared.

My rules, are intended to keep speed under 60-70 at max. There is no class for 45 SS.

Fun and safety are my thoughts.

That boat Hoffman crashed might have been a ModC with a shiftable case. I thing they had them going about 80 mph at the end, and no capsules. Just need to watch what we let run on a true tunnel.

Default 2.5 Mercury in Division VII??

Maximus you quit messing with MY RULES or I won't let twin engine boats run....

You going to be at the Rules Meeting tomorrow??? 1/23/10

Talked to Andy Anderson, Ski Racer, today. He has a 12 foot Schiada with a 30 Mercury he's down for running three hours in a Mini Boat Enduro!!!!

    ADD:

I just handed somebody the rules...and I gave them your "REVISED" rules.

Here is my challenge to you right her, right now.

You must run your own Mini Boat, can't "HIDE" behind your daughters....

I can be you and any boat Bob Graff can put together for this Mini Enduro!!!!! I think it would be great to see a Rusher Air OUTBOARD!!!!! (Mini Outboard)...

    Your boat's name: Wiskers, Jr.

Listen there Mr Ron Hill... I will have run Wiskers for hopefully a full bout on Saturday. My kids will be up all saturday night waiting for their turn. I will be completely focused on their program & keeping a safe distance from my wife! Now if I can run Wiskers maybe we could hang a stick job on the back & make it a divison 8 boat!

Ron I have 2 miniboats I'm building right now. A 10' Schiada and a 12' Schiada. The 10'er I have scheduled to be complete by aruond mid summer.. If your gonna have this race I can try to bump completion up on both to have them done in time.

I had planned on powering the 10'er with a 40HP tohatsu, or possibly another type of 40. I'm still up in the air on the 12'er.

I'm not sure that the Schiada's really go that much faster with a 30 or a 40 (you would know more about that then me)

Either way I'm interested in trying to get out there and race, but I'd need to know the exact rules as I don't want to build the boat and then find out it doesn't comply with the rules for some reason. (jack plate?)

I don't expect a 10' Schiada would be a contender to win as they are somewhat heavy.. but it'd be fun to just get out there and do it anyways.

What are the length requirements? Will a 12' Schiada be ok? Prop height requirements etc?

Unless ROSS SAYS OTHERWISE, with me buying the trophies, there will only be seven divisions......AND we don't refer to an OUTBOARD as a STICK!!!!

    Frank Marrone and Sons.....and Daughters???

This going to be great and don't take anything I said...seriously, except there will be a race and the rules are real!

And I am willing to argue and or justify my rules.

    Default River Dave...

http://www.riverdavesplace.com/ I don't know if you saw the January issue of the APBA Propeller Magazine, but I credited your Blue WATER RESORT AND CASINO 300 GREAT pictures in my monthly article.

Ross said he'd check out the details, but thought he could make the Mini Boat Enduro Happen, but he did want a boat count.
